2008 End of Season Party!

The 2008 End of Season Party is scheduled for Saturday 10/18 at the Huntsville Tennis Center (HTC) (not HAC as we did in the past) from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  HITL will provide pizza and drinks.  The party is open to all HITL players and their family members.  T-shirts will be awarded to the division winning teams and to the tournament doubles winners and singles winners and runner-ups for each flight.  Additional T-shirts can be posted for $9 each at the party which were voted to be grey with blue lettering.

2008 Tournament

The tournament is scheduled to begin 9/2 and the brackets are posted in the Results section on this website and at HTC.  There will be periodic updates as round results are collected so please check back often.

Singles:

Round 1:  9/2 - 9/16

Round 2:  9/17 - 9/29

Round 3:  9/30 - 10/9

Doubles:

Round 1:  9/2 - 9/23

Round 2:  9/24 - 10/9

As usual, players can play their respective matches as soon as their opponents are available (i.e. they can play matches earlier than listed above once they know who their opponents will be).   They do have to have their match results posted by the end of the round, or it will be considered a forfeit by both sides.  The winning side should post the results and email them to Vice-President.

2008 Season Has Begun!

4/16/2008

Round 1 has started but there are still teams looking for players.  E-mail the League Coordinator in the Contacts section to join.  We expanded to 16 teams in 4 divisions this year.  Great job everyone!  At the 4/15 meeting, amendment 1 and amendment 2 were adopted but amendment 3 was not.  Rosters and results will be posted soon.

2008 Season Teams Now Forming!

2008 teams are now forming and play will begin in mid April.  If you are interested in playing but are not already on a team, please email the League Coordinator in the Contacts section.  Please provide your:

Preferred email address

Phone number and

NTRP rating (or self rating)

Most beginners are 3.0.  Also indicate if you would be willing to captain a team.  In late March or early April, you will be contacted by a team captain and invited to play on their team.

Looking for New Team Captains!

This year, we would really like to expand back to four divisions and add more teams to our upper divisions.  There are enough new players to support this expansion but not enough volunteers to captain the new teams.  Please consider volunteering.  It's easy!  A new section coming soon in the Info area will help you get started.  Also, please help distribute the HITL Recruitment Flyer found in the Files area.

Proposed 2008 Constitutional Amendments

The following three constitutional amendments will be voted upon at the 4/15 meeting.

Amendment 1 to By-law Provision III Section 5

No member is eligible to hold more than one elective office at a time. Only the President's and Vice President's positions may not be retained for more than one year in succession.

New:

No member is eligible to hold more than one elective office at a time.

Amendment 2 to By-law Provision V Section 1

Exclusion of USTA self rating for new players.

Old:

All participants in HITL after 1/1/94 must have a current USTA rating or written proof of an approved HITL equivalent rating dated 1/1/93 or later. Approved HITL equivalent ratings are NTRP ratings assigned by teaching professionals at HTC, HAC, VHCC, or HRC. (Participants in HITL prior to 12/31/93 must have an NTRP rating or an approved equivalent rating.)

New:

All participants in HITL after 1/1/94 must have a current USTA computer rating (excludes USTA self ratings) or written proof of an approved HITL equivalent rating dated 1/1/93 or later. Approved HITL equivalent ratings are NTRP ratings assigned by teaching professionals at HTC, HAC, VHCC, or HRC. (Participants in HITL prior to 12/31/93 must have an NTRP rating or an approved equivalent rating.)

Amendment 3 to By-law Provision V Section 5

Clarification of handling of women's ratings.

Old:

A team shall be a member of a Division. Annual Division grouping will be established and approved by the Board, based on the average team rating, which will be determined by the ten highest rated members of the team. There shall be a maximum one point player rating spread between the highest and lowest rated player on a team, except that a 0.5 point subtraction from a woman's rating shall be made. The League Coordinator shall propose divisions composed of preferably six teams that have the closest team averages. These team averages shall be shown with four significant digits accuracy on the proposed division composition summary. The League Coordinator will explain his reasons for placing teams in positions that are inconsistent with the teams' ratings.

New:

A team shall be a member of a Division. Annual Division grouping will be established and approved by the Board, based on the average team rating, which will be determined by the ten highest rated members of the team. There shall be a maximum one point player rating spread between the highest and lowest rated player on a team. When computing average team rating and rating spread, a 0.5 point subtraction from a woman's rating shall be made. The printed women's ratings shall be listed as normal and without this subtraction.
